Once a source of transportation, ice skating is now a recreational activity. Ice skating is the self-propulsion and gliding of a person across an ice surface, using metal-bladed ice skates. People skate for various reasons, including recreation, exercise, competitive sports, and commuting.
Early skates were made from sharpened animal bones which were attached to the bottom of shoes. These crude skates allowed people to conserve energy in frigid conditions asĀ they traversed frozen lakes, and waterways.
Ice skating rinks are often found to be both indoors and outdoors. It's a fun way to spend a day with friends and family. |
